In a significant change for Final Fantasy 14, the upcoming patch 7.4 will lift restrictions on the glamour system, allowing players to customize their characters’ appearances without limitation based on job or class. Yoshi-P, the game’s director, shared this decision during an interview, stating that while he has personal preferences in character design, it’s important to let players enjoy their roleplaying experience without constraints.
“I felt that leaving the playstyle up to players rather than restricting it through the system would ultimately prevent the proliferation of tools that impede business.”
He elaborated that previous policies regarding glamour were too restrictive and didn’t align with modern expectations from MMORPG players. This pivot marks a notable shift in how Square Enix engages with its community, aiming to enhance player satisfaction and engagement through increased customization options.
