Micron’s Crucial brand will cease offering DDR memory for personal computers starting in February 2026. The company’s decision comes amid a surge in demand for memory and storage driven by AI data centers, leading them to prioritize supplying larger, more profitable customers.
In essence, this means that PC gamers will no longer be the target market for Micron’s memory products as enterprise customers have more financial resources to spend.
According to previous reports, high memory prices are expected to persist into 2028 because major manufacturers like Samsung and SK Hynix—responsible for approximately 70% of the global DRAM supply—are focusing on their enterprise business without significantly enhancing production capabilities. Micron’s new production capacities are anticipated, but they will not be operational until late 2028.
For PC gamers and everyday consumers, this shift signifies a significant decrease in available options for affordable memory solutions, with Crucial’s offerings being especially popular among budget-conscious users.
This decision aligns with Micron’s larger strategy to focus on enterprise solutions, aiming to foster long-term growth and value creation for its stakeholders.
