IO Interactive recently celebrated 25 years of its flagship Hitman series, marked by Agent 47’s iconic image throughout the gaming community. The series has significantly evolved over time—from its initial concept as a 3D action game with innovative assassinations to the more polished, expansive environments of the recent trilogy.
The trilogy, which is now compiled as Hitman: World of Assassination, will see a fresh collaboration with Eminem, allowing the game to incorporate celebrity setups as elusive targets, enhancing the gameplay experience.
Upcoming additions include a co-op mode, scheduling its release post-March 2026, coinciding with the launch of 007 First Light.
Hakan Abrak, IO’s CEO, confirmed in an interview, “Of course there will be more Hitman, but right now we are focusing on completing the projects currently underway.”
The anticipation builds not only for the continuation of Hitman but also for its integration into new gameplay modalities such as cooperative play, which promises fresh and intriguing mechanics.
Furthermore, remarks from Jacob Mikkelsen reiterated the value found in the developmental lessons learned from Hitman: Absolution, emphasizing that growth stems from understanding past missteps. Abrak also revealed statistics indicating that the series has attracted over 85 million players with 25 million copies sold.
To stay informed on future updates concerning the Hitman series, fans are encouraged to look out for announcements in the coming year.
