Bungie has resolved the concerns regarding a claim of art theft related to the design of its upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon. The artist involved, Antireal, stated that the issue has been settled to their satisfaction.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Antireal announced, “The Marathon art issue has been resolved with Bungie and Sony Interactive Entertainment to my satisfaction.” This comes eight months after Antireal initially alleged that her designs were used without permission during a Marathon playtest.
Antireal had expressed her frustrations back in May, highlighting how her work was appropriated without due credit in Bungie’s projects. However, it seems negotiations led to a satisfactory conclusion for both parties, with Bungie recognizing the oversight and expressing their commitment to rectify the situation.
This incident underscores a persistent challenge in the gaming industry, where intellectual property issues often arise, prompting companies like Bungie to reevaluate their processes to prevent such occurrences in the future.
