The ongoing memory crisis appears to be far from resolved as major manufacturers Samsung and SK Hynix have stated they plan to keep production limited to maintain pricing stability.
“Rather than rapidly expanding facilities, we will pursue a strategy of maintaining long-term profitability,” a Samsung representative remarked, emphasizing their intention to minimize the risk of oversupply to keep a balance between customer demand and prices.
“Customers want long-term contracts of several years, but Samsung Electronics does not want to tie up volumes with a specific customer in a situation where prices are rising rapidly,” they added.
Currently, Samsung is meeting only about 70% of the demand for DRAM, while SK Hynix also acknowledged the challenges ahead in escalating production.
Expectations are that this supply crunch could extend well into 2028, especially as demand continues to rise rapidly while investments in production facilities take years to materialize.
