In a rather unsurprising turn of events, the latest update for Windows 11 has introduced a bug that could be a nuisance for users operating in dark mode. This recent issue causes File Explorer to momentarily display a blinding white screen upon launch, reminiscent of a flashbang effect from Counter-Strike.
As stated, this update is part of the KB5070311 package. While the bug may seem trivial compared to other issues that have plagued Windows updates, it is certainly alarming for those who prefer a darker interface. According to the official update notes, users might encounter a brief white screen before their files and folders load.
The Verge elaborated on this bug, highlighting that the issue can arise in various scenarios: navigating to Home or Gallery, creating new tabs, toggling the Details pane, or selecting more details while transferring files.
As a tester myself, I can confirm that the flash doesn’t occur every time. However, using a large OLED monitor, the sudden brightness can be quite jarring, especially when activating fullscreen mode for File Explorer.
Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is reportedly working on a fix. Until then, users looking for a safer alternative for file management might want to consider tools like Explorer++.
