Helldivers 2 Shrinks Its Installation Size Dramatically

Arrowhead has significantly reduced the installation size of Helldivers 2 from approximately 154GB to just 23GB during a beta phase, with no functional differences noted.

In a significant update, Arrowhead Games announced that the installation size for Helldivers 2 has been reduced from around 154GB to just 23GB. This remarkable change was implemented in a public beta that players can opt into on Steam.

The developers noted this reduction was achievable through effective data management. Arrowhead stated, “By completely de-duplicating our data, we were able to reduce the PC installation size by approximately 85%.” This update brings the game’s size closer to the console version, which is about 35GB.

This change raises questions about data management practices in gaming as players wonder how many other games occupy excess space on their hard drives. The alterations in the file size are said to result in minimal differences in load times, and all progress and purchases will transfer seamlessly between versions.

Steam users wishing to access this new slim version can do so by navigating to their ‘Properties’ section and selecting ‘Betas.’ Players are expected to enjoy the same game quality while saving a significant amount of disk space.
