I expect my tablet to be heavily utilized in the coming year.
This year, I adhered to my usual frugal tendencies during the holiday season. After completing my Christmas shopping, I resolved to lock my bank account to avoid impulsive spending—like on loads of Lego or even a Batman costume, which I once considered a ‘cure’ for sadness.
However, I did indulge slightly. This Cyber Monday, I acquired:
- Two standard Cat 6 ethernet cables (which I think I saved about 25 pence on)
- A fantastic comic book bundle from Humble Bundle.
Image comics in the ’10s
Humble’s “Image comics in the ’10s” bundle kicks off before the typical shopping frenzy and will continue for another 17 days, but I’m counting it as a Holiday deal because it’s live during peak shopping season.
This impressive bundle comes with 175 digital trades from some of Image’s most loved series from the 2010s. It comprises complete or partial runs of series such as Black Science, Saga, Paper Girls, and Prophet.
While I own many of these comics in physical form already, I often struggle to complete series. Now that I predominantly read comics on my tablet, this deal was a must-have. With such a substantial collection of 175 digital trade paperbacks—an absurd number—there’s still much I haven’t read.
You can get this massive collection for just £14/$18 (more if you wish to contribute to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation). At full price, it would normally cost a staggering $2,783, making this a substantial saving.
If you prefer physical media, I understand, but after years of avoiding the switch and gradually getting buried under piles of comics in my flat, I’ve fully embraced the digital format. I’ve even dedicated a tablet solely to comic reading.
So, if you haven’t already made the leap, I assure you it’s worthwhile—saving money while having your collection available anywhere is incredibly appealing. As I contemplate this, I look forward to re-experiencing John Prophet’s surreal adventures.
