Schedule 1's Creator Prepared a Backup Strategy for Steam Rejection

The developer of the successful game Schedule 1 had a contingency plan in case Steam declined the title, which involved pivoting to a farming game.

Schedule 1 was released in 2025 as a surprise hit, coming out unexpectedly and quickly climbing to the top of sales charts. Despite its success, the game faced scrutiny due to potential content issues that could arise from platform policies regarding adult themes. To mitigate rejection, Tyler, the game’s creator, mentioned he had a backup plan to pivot the game entirely into a farming simulator if necessary, stripping out any drug references.

“Early during development, I had a plan where, if Steam wouldn’t take it for whatever reason, I could just pivot it to be a farming game. Just strip all the drug stuff out… but thankfully, it was all right.”

The game encountered some hurdles with international regulations and was temporarily banned in Australia, illustrating the challenges developers face with game approvals globally. Nonetheless, Schedule 1 has managed to maintain a vibrant player base, peaking at 459,000 simultaneous players on Steam and sustaining over 13,500 active players at any given time.

In an alternative scenario, players might be engaging with a farming simulator instead, managing gardens and crops while navigating the often-complex rating approvals from governing bodies.
