MIT's Novel Study Predicts AI Could Replace Over 11% of US Jobs

A new study from MIT reveals shocking insights about AI's potential impact on the job market, suggesting that over 11% of positions could be automated.

Researchers at MIT recently introduced the “Iceberg Index,” which indicates that around 11.7% of the US workforce could potentially be replaced by AI. According to their analysis, this shift could represent approximately 17.7 million jobs and nearly $1.2 trillion in annual wages. The Iceberg Index serves as a tool to gauge the skills that AI can perform relative to the capacities of human workers. Prasanna Balaprakash, a director at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, highlighted in a CNBC interview that the Index creates a digital representation of the labor market, classifying workers based on skills, occupations, and locations.
