Creative Director of Clair Obscur Shares Unexpected Success of the Game

The creative force behind Clair Obscur shares their amazement at the game's massive success following its launch.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surprisingly sold more than five million copies since its launch and impressed audiences at the Golden Joystick Awards by equaling the record set by Baldur’s Gate 3.

In an interview after the awards, the creative director, Guillaume Broche, reflected on their expectations prior to the game’s debut. “We all thought it was going to be cool, but not big. Now it’s hard to comprehend why it’s so popular.”

His surprise echoed sentiments expressed during the award ceremony when he exclaimed, “What the f**k is happening right now?”

Continuing on the affectionate reception of the game, Broche added, “It’s a wonderful feeling to pour your heart into something and have the world embrace it.”

Ben Starr, who voiced a character in the game, emphasized that the success was unforeseen, stating, “It was never intended to be as big as it is. It’s turned into a cultural phenomenon due to its honesty, and many have connected with that.”

Clair Obscur is slated to continue its success at The Game Awards in December, where it has received numerous nominations.
