Nintendo Acquires Bandai Namco's Singapore Studio

Nintendo's acquisition of Bandai Namco's Singapore studio marks a significant move towards expanding its development capabilities.

Nintendo has officially entered into an agreement to acquire Bandai Namco’s Singapore studio, which is expected to be completely integrated by spring 2026. This cooperative history between Nintendo and Bandai Namco may enhance the development aspects for future games, especially regarding the anticipated Switch 2.

Background
The Singapore branch of Bandai Namco has been operational since 2013, focusing on the Asian gaming market. Its notable collaborations include the successful game Splatoon 3, developed alongside Nintendo, which was launched in September 2022 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The studio has also contributed to several popular titles such as Soul Calibur 6, Ace Combat 7, and Taiko no Tatsujin: VR Festival.

Nintendo will purchase 80 percent of the studio’s shares on April 1, 2026, with plans for the remaining shares to be transferred after a stabilization period. This acquisition will result in the studio being rebranded as Nintendo Studios Singapore, providing numerous new opportunities for game development.

Compared to industry rivals like Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has been relatively slower to acquire new studios, yet this could signal a shift in strategy as they prepare for increased competition in the gaming landscape.
