Embark Studios has begun rolling out a brand-new update for ARC Raiders on November 27, bringing the popular third-person extraction shooter to version 1.4.0 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Although the latest ARC Raiders update includes only a handful of fixes, it has finally addressed two of the shooter’s most prevalent exploits, which the community has been calling for to be fixed for the last few weeks. Thankfully, the update is now available to download and install across the aforementioned platforms, meaning these exploits should no longer be an issue the next time players head Topside.
The monumental success of ARC Raiders has taken the gaming world by surprise over the last month. Developed by Embark Studios, consisting of numerous ex-DICE developers, the title has been in the works for many years after being restarted at one point. While the studio found moderate success with its initial shooter, The Finals, which continues to receive new content updates regularly, no one anticipated that Embark’s newest game would surpass more than 481,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. Its achievement of becoming one of Steam’s most played games is impressive, especially considering it launched in between Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7, two of the year’s biggest shooters.
ARC Raiders Finally Fixes Locked Door Exploit
The core gameplay loop, friendly community, and unique ARC enemies contribute to Embark’s success with this title. Another vital factor is the steady stream of updates ARC Raiders has received in its debut month. The game’s latest patch, update 1.4.0, is now available on all supported platforms, introducing crucial fixes and improvements. According to the official patch notes available further down this article, the latest update implements “exploit mitigation mechanisms” for all locked rooms across all maps. While it is still technically possible to exploit this, players who attempt to glitch into a locked room will now be met with a prompt death as the room will quickly fill with flames.
For those unaware, the locked door exploit in ARC Raiders has been a significant point of discussion over the past weeks. Essentially, players were glitching into locked rooms, even without keys. Various methods were used, with the most popular being to run into the door while another player collided with you from behind, essentially phasing the first player through the door to unlock it from the other side and allow teammates to loot the valuable inside.
Although it may seem benign, in an extraction shooter like ARC Raiders, looting is crucial to gameplay. This exploit significantly impacted fairness, especially for players attempting to access rooms legitimately. They risked their gear and hard-earned keys, only to discover that rooms were looted by those exploiting the glitch. Thankfully, this issue should now be resolved, enabling players to explore without concern that locked rooms have been looted unfairly.
Update 1.4.0 also includes several other crucial improvements, such as fixing an exploit that allowed players to fire the Il Toro shotgun—one of the best weapons for PvP—faster than intended. Players previously achieved this by equipping the Il Toro and quickly switching to a Quick Use item, like a Bandage or Shield Recharger, between shots, thereby skipping the reload animation.
