Doom: The Dark Ages Enhances Arena Mode and Introduces Selectable Player-Made Levels

The latest update of Doom: The Dark Ages transforms its customizable arena mode and adds features for easier gameplay.

In August, Doom: The Dark Ages introduced a new wave-based mode known as the “Ripatorium” that lets players create their own demonic encounters. The newest update significantly revamps this mode.

Key Changes in Update 2.3

  • Focused primarily on the Ripatorium, but includes balance adjustments across the campaign.
  • Players can now enjoy a round-based structure for arena combat, allowing for more diverse enemy setups rather than repeating the same encounter.
  • Adjustments to the “Brink of Death” mechanic that influences survival chances under low-health conditions.

Players will be able to experience up to five rounds against selected enemies, while preserving the option for customization with respawn settings and wave counts.

Furthermore, the update introduces new music tracks for a more immersive gaming experience and a passcode sharing feature, enabling players to share their created encounters with the community promoting creativity and engagement. id Software hopes that this aspect will encourage player collaboration and community building around the Ripatorium mode.
