Wizards of the Coast Delays New Magic: The Gathering Release

Wizards of the Coast announces a delay in new products for Magic: The Gathering due to a manufacturing defect, affecting highly anticipated expansions.

Wizards of the Coast has announced that some imminent releases for Magic: The Gathering will be postponed due to a defect in manufacturing. The popular trading card game is set to expand significantly in 2025 with exciting new products under the “Universes Beyond” initiative, featuring collaborations from franchises such as Final Fantasy and Spider-Man. Unfortunately, this delay affects some new releases scheduled for earlier this year.

One of the primary methods Wizards utilizes for distributing exclusive cards in Magic: The Gathering is through its Secret Lair drops. These curated collections typically include reprints of older cards with fresh artwork. Recent drops have featured collaborations with notable franchises, including a PlayStation superdrop that highlighted famous games like Horizon and God of War. However, certain products within this series will not release as planned due to raw material component inconsistencies, as stated by the developer in an update on their official website.

Players affected by these delays will be provided with options for refunds or adjustments to their orders. While Wizards of the Coast has recognized the issue, they have not disclosed which specific Secret Lair products will experience delays.

Additionally, the company plans to continue expanding its range of Secret Lairs and collaborations through the year’s end, announcing new partnerships with pop culture icons, including projects inspired by Jaws, Furby, and even Iron Maiden. Moreover, an upcoming set will introduce a crossover with Avatar: The Last Airbender, adding to the excitement for fans of Magic: The Gathering.
