Steam Deck Compatibility Issues with Avowed: A Performance Review

Despite running on older GPUs, Avowed struggles with performance on the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck Compatibility Challenges

Avowed, the latest RPG from Obsidian, while compatible with older GPUs, faces notable performance hurdles on the Steam Deck.

“It’s one compromise too many to embrace Avowed on the move.”

Avowed struggles significantly on the Steam Deck, even though it meets the minimum GPU requirements of GTX 1070 from 2016. Although recent RPGs have managed smoother performance on the device, Avowed’s performance remains disappointing.

The game currently has an “unknown” compatibility rating on Steam Deck. Upon testing, the observer reports dismal frame rates ranging from 20 to 25 fps at minimized settings. These figures fall far short of what players expect for portable gaming, especially when it comes to engaging combat encounters.

The game targets 30 fps on Xbox Series consoles but isn’t optimized for the handheld despite requests for better specs. Consequently, it performs admirably on desktop environments with appropriate hardware configurations.
