Official Announcement: Halo 1 Remake Launching on PS5, Missing Key Multiplayer Feature

The remake of Halo's first campaign, titled Halo: Campaign Evolved, will be available on PS5 but will lack online PVP multiplayer.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Set for PS5 Release

Halo: Campaign Evolved is officially in development, as Microsoft announced a remake of the original Halo campaign for various platforms including the PS5, scheduled for launch in 2026. While this is a significant milestone for the Halo franchise finally entering the PlayStation ecosystem, it will not feature any online player-versus-player (PVP) modes, though it will allow four-player campaign co-op.

During the 2025 Halo World Championships in Seattle on October 24, the remake was officially unveiled, marking the first foray of a Halo title onto PlayStation hardware after two decades of rivalry between Sony and Microsoft. The remake guarantees split-screen co-op for two players but exclusively on consoles, and will also introduce a four-player online campaign that supports cross-platform play.

In addition to the original storyline remaining intact, Campaign Evolved will introduce three prequel chapters focusing on Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. A demo of a specific level, The Silent Cartographer, is available for attendees of the championship to experience during the event.

This remake coincides with the Halo franchise’s 25th anniversary, following its initial release alongside the first Xbox console in 2001. The original game was recognized for its local multiplayer capabilities via system link, a feature that emerged before the Xbox Live era.
