Developer of Steal a Brainrot Files Lawsuit Against Fortnite Copycat

The original creator of the popular Roblox game Steal a Brainrot is taking legal action against a Fortnite game that they claim is a copycat version.

The developer behind the hugely popular Roblox game Steal a Brainrot is taking legal action against the creator of a game they claim is a clone within Fortnite. The original developer seeks to stop the alleged copycat game and pursue damages along with any profits derived from it.

Steal a Brainrot has gained significant traction in Roblox, achieving over 25 million concurrent players in October 2025 and nearly 6 billion total plays. The unique meme-based treasure hunting game consistently ranks among the top in Roblox, contributing to the platform itself breaking records with over 47 million concurrent players in September.

Legal Actions

The developer, Spyder Games, initiated the lawsuit against an individual named Thomas Van Der Voort, who is behind a Fortnite game called Stealing Brainrots. Spyder Games contends that Stealing Brainrots plagiarizes elements of its Roblox counterpart, infringing upon copyrights regarding art and game design. They aim to remove the Fortnite version and claim any profits it has generated. As of this report, the Fortnite map appears to be disabled, although it remains unclear if that was a voluntary action by Epic Games or the defendant.

Existing Versions

While the primary objective is to safeguard the original Roblox Steal a Brainrot title, removing Stealing Brainrots may also favor another Fortnite title: Steal The Brainrot, which is an officially licensed version. Given the confusion arising from similarly named games, it is plausible that players have inadvertently engaged with the alleged infringer instead of the licensed one. Eliminating Stealing Brainrots could redirect more traffic to the authorized version.

As the lawsuit was filed on October 23, responses from the accused party are yet to come. With the titles and gameplay being so alike, a legal battle could be challenging for Van Der Voort to win. Players who might have mistakenly played Stealing Brainrots are encouraged to check out the licensed Steal The Brainrot in Fortnite or its original version in Roblox.
