Old GPUs Will Handle Assassin's Creed Shadows, Says Director

The upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows is designed to support older GPUs, reassuring gamers with pre-RTX hardware that they won’t miss out on performance.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on March 20. Gamers with older GPUs need not worry about performance, as the game is designed to run smoothly even on pre-RTX models.

In a recent Q&A, technology director Pierre F stated that their team created a proprietary software-based ray tracing solution to ensure better performance on older hardware. He mentioned:

“If your GPU does not support hardware ray tracing, such as pre-RTX GPUs, we have developed our own solution to allow competent, yet older, GPUs to run Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game will use a proprietary software-based ray tracing approach developed specifically for that.”

This implies that performance should be satisfactory on GPUs like the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080Ti, which, although lacking in hardware ray tracing capabilities, can still enjoy a decent gaming experience.

Furthermore, players in the Hideout portion of the game will benefit from a Selective Ray Tracing mode, utilized when extensive player customization occurs. This system allows ray tracing to remain active only in this customized environment.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows aims to provide an immersive experience without forcing gamers to upgrade their hardware, making it accessible to a wider audience.
