Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Mix and Match Frame Generation and Upscaling Features
It’s currently a hot topic among PC gaming hardware enthusiasts—frame generation. Whether people discuss it positively or negatively, it’s clear that GPUs and games are increasingly incorporating AI-assisted rendering. The latest entry, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will provide a range of options for frame generation and upscaling.
In a recent tech Q&A, Pierre F, the technology director for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, explained the robust suite of frame generation capabilities in the game, excluding DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation.
Supported Technologies
Pierre stated: “DLSS 3.7, FSR 3.1, and XeSS 2 are all supported for both upscaling and frame generation. Our own Temporal AA solution is also available. You can select one technology to upscale while using another for frame generation.”
Gamers with AMD or Intel cards may face limitations using Nvidia’s tech, but the mix-and-match feature could be especially advantageous for Nvidia RTX 20-series and 30-series GPUs. Users may utilize FSR frame generation alongside DLSS upscaling, for instance.
Settings for AMD GPUs will allow XeSS upscaling with FSR frame generation, although it won’t match FSR 3.1’s quality. Intel users are likely to depend on XeSS 2 frame generation as their primary option.
Interestingly, to date, there are only two games that support XeSS 2: F1 24 and Marvel Rivals. Now, Assassin’s Creed Shadows joins the list, thanks to Ubisoft’s partnership with Intel.
The technology director remarked, “As part of our partnership with Intel, we had direct access to XeSS 2 before its public release and collaborated with Intel’s engineers for optimal implementation.”
Upcoming Release Details
Fans won’t have to wait much longer for the launch, as Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for March 20, 2025. This installment promises engaging gameplay with dual protagonists, catering to both stealth enthusiasts and action fans—a perfect fit for the frame generation and upscaling features.
