Delay in Diablo 4's Expansion: New Timeline Set for 2026

Blizzard announces that the second expansion for Diablo 4 is postponed until 2026, deviating from its original annual release schedule.

The original schedule for annual expansions for Diablo 4 has hit a snag as it was revealed by Rod Fergusson, the franchise general manager at Blizzard Entertainment, during a recent DICE panel that the second expansion is now not expected until 2026.

This news marks a departure from the initial game plan that aimed for yearly expansions. The information was initially reported by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, who shared details via his social media on Bluesky:

“Now, our second expansion won’t be in that roadmap, because our second expansion is going to be in ‘26.”
(Translation: Ahora, nuestra segunda expansión no estará en ese mapa de ruta, porque nuestra segunda expansión será en 2026.)

Continuing the discussion on the launch successes and setbacks, Fergusson emphasized the necessity for developers to communicate future plans to players.

Diablo 4 released its first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, on October 8, 2024, which received strong praise, leading to expectations that the subsequent expansion would follow in 2025. However, the evolving challenges of managing a live service game made this timeline impractical.

There are no updates regarding additional features or content at this moment, but a roadmap is expected soon for the upcoming year.
