New Steam Game Transforms Popular Meme into a Metroidvania Experience, Play the Demo Today

Players can try out a demo for the upcoming Metroidvania game inspired by the famous 'This Is Fine' meme, now available until October 22.

Steam users have a limited time to explore a demo of a new Metroidvania title, This Is Fine: Maximum Cope, inspired by the renowned ‘This Is Fine’ meme created by cartoonist KC Green. This game is featured in the ongoing Steam Next Fest and is set for release on PC and consoles in March 2026.

As one of the most iconic memes of the 2010s, ‘This Is Fine’ made its debut in KC Green’s webcomic Gunshow in 2013. This comic illustrates a dog named Question Hound, calmly drinking coffee amid a fiery chaos surrounding him. The comic gained traction online as a sarcastic commentary on situations that are clearly not fine, with the meme spiking in popularity around 2014 after its initial spread on platforms like Reddit. Though the webcomic concluded in 2014, the legacy of ‘This Is Fine’ has enabled Green to pursue various other projects.

Demo Available Until October 22

Despite numerous games that have celebrated memes on Steam, This Is Fine: Maximum Cope offers a fresh twist with a demo available for players until October 22. This 2D Metroidvania game allows gamers to guide Question Hound through five worlds reflecting emotions like Failure, Fear, and Regret. Players will collect coffee beans to purchase upgrades that enhance their abilities, including a feature that attracts coffee beans from afar. Each world will present iconic elements from Green’s comic, such as the coffee table and burning house, which serve as rest points where players can save their progress and navigate back through earlier sections.

This Is Fine: Maximum Cope is expected to launch in March 2026 on Steam and all major consoles, although an exact release date has yet to be confirmed. The reception from fans of Green’s work remains uncertain.
