Nitroglycerine! is a dream come true: playable Sorcerer.

Film enthusiasts will recognize the inspiration behind Nitroglycerine!, which features players driving a truck loaded with volatile explosives over challenging terrain, evoking the harshness of the film Sorcerer. This thriller, directed by William Friedkin, initially faced criticism but has since garnered respect.

If you haven’t seen Sorcerer, I highly recommend it. In the meantime, think of Nitroglycerine! as a blend of Snowrunner and Baby Steps. The demo drops players right into the action, skipping the lengthy narrative setup from the film. You are in the cabin of a ’70s flatbed truck, responsible for delivering a single crate of dangerous liquid. Your mission is to navigate a series of treacherous dirt paths with only a basic map and your nerves of steel.

You get three trucks and three attempts to reach your destination, with gas stations acting as checkpoints. My initial run was short-lived, only managing to reach the first checkpoint before losing all three trucks. A major challenge is keeping the explosive-filled crate secure, as it slides around the flatbed whenever you hit a bump.

The game throws various obstacles your way, including precarious wooden bridges, sharp turns at dangerous heights, and large boulders obstructing the road. Nitroglycerine! offers a thrilling experience, but it remains to be seen how much additional content will be available outside of the demo. The full version promises a ‘free ride’ mode, likely allowing more reckless gameplay.

Nitroglycerine! is designed for quick sessions, making it different from heavier driving simulators. If you’ve found other recent driving titles too easy, Nitroglycerine! may provide the challenge you’ve been yearning for.
