'It should be silly': Overwatch 2's new Halloween event Haunted Masquerade connects characters' lore while embracing a light-hearted spirit
Overwatch 2's latest Halloween event, Haunted Masquerade, introduces exciting new gameplay elements by merging characters' backstories with a playful twist.
Overwatch 2’s Season 19 is here, featuring Haunted Masquerade, a new Halloween event. Instead of the usual PvE experiences often seen in holiday events, this one reimagines traditional 6v6 gameplay for a more engaging experience.
“We want to explore something a bit broader, in the sense of, like, team selection,” says Alec Dawson, the associate game director. “You know, how is my team benefiting me? What did they give me? And seeing how the players will react to that in particular.”
In this event, players can enjoy unique character pairings based on their lore:
- Hanzo and Genji combine their Dragons.
- Brigitte and Reinhardt merge shields.
- Additional combos include Ramattra with Zenyatta, Winston with Tracer, and many more.
Kirill Perekrest, the lead game designer, highlights how this setup aims to bring joy and a light-hearted spirit to the game, stressing that Halloween should be fun and a little silly: “You can exaggerate stuff, and you can try something out, if you want to prototype in playtests.”
Existing favorites like Junkenstein’s Revenge and Wrath of the Bride also return, enhancing the Halloween atmosphere. So gear up and get ready for a night of fun and games with Overwatch 2’s Haunted Masquerade!
