
Capcom executives were astonished that anyone might prefer the original Resident Evil when GOG sought to license it. They questioned, “Why would anyone want the originals when we have all those remakes? They are the superior experience,” says Marcin Paczynski, senior business development manager at GOG. This situation illuminates a disconnect between industry leaders and a section of gamers who cherish classic titles.
Paczynski explained, “It needed a lot of convincing that there’s indeed an audience with fond memories of those games,” emphasizing the demand for preserving the past in gaming history.
