MachineGames, the creator of notable games such as Wolfenstein and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has teetered on the edge of excitement regarding its next project. The buzz began on October 10, when the studio marked its 15 years with ZeniMax Media by releasing an anniversary poster. This poster showcased covers from five of its previous releases, while intriguingly, it also featured an empty space marked with a question mark, suggesting something new is on the horizon.
MachineGames has released over half a dozen titles since its inception in 2009.
Headquartered in Uppsala, Sweden, the studio gained prominence after being acquired by ZeniMax Media, which is now owned by Microsoft. The most recent game to come from MachineGames was Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which made its debut on Xbox Series X/S and PC in December of 2024, and later on PlayStation 5 in April of 2025.
Speculation Surrounding Future Projects
Following the anniversary announcement, comments flooded in from fans eager to speculate about possible new titles. Many theories point towards either a new Wolfenstein installment or yet another Indiana Jones adventure. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer had previously hinted at an Indiana Jones and the Great Circle sequel, noting its success and hinting that the franchise still holds significant potential.
In a recent documentary, MachineGames director Jerk Gustafsson alluded to the possibility of a third Wolfenstein game. This aligns with the vision of the studio to treat its revival series as a trilogy. His comments reaffirm the earlier remarks of the now-retired Bethesda VP Pete Hines, who suggested that Wolfenstein 3 was very much in consideration.
With a live-action Wolfenstein series announced for development at Amazon, the studio’s next steps may be timed to align closely with this project’s launch. This strategic approach could amplify interest across both media, enhancing the franchise’s presence in the gaming world.
