Nintendo Targeted by Major Hacker Group in Data Breach

Reports indicate that hacker group Crimson Collective has successfully breached Nintendo's data, claiming to have collected over 570 GB of sensitive information.

Nintendo has reportedly experienced a significant data breach, with claims from the hacker group Crimson Collective stating they have acquired more than 570 GB of sensitive data. The initial reports do not suggest that any personal player information has been compromised, but the stolen data may contain assets, previews, and budget details relating to Nintendo’s operations.

So far, 2025 has seen noteworthy success for Nintendo, with the Nintendo Switch 2 achieving over 2.4 million sales in the U.S. within its launch period. Yet, amid these commercial achievements, the repercussions of this hacking incident could overshadow the year.

Details of the Breach

The Crimson Collective asserts it has infiltrated Nintendo’s file system, potentially leaking unreleased files. They shared images on social media purportedly showing directories with titles suggesting they house production details and upcoming titles. This breach could be labeled as the most substantial the company has faced in several years, reminiscent of incidents in April 2020, which involved hacking of user accounts that prompted enhanced security measures from Nintendo.

Nintendo’s response to this current breach remains to be seen.
