Just shy of two weeks after launching its bold approach to save the multiplayer shooter FBC: Firebreak, Remedy reports its performance is still lacking. As a result, the studio has issued a profit warning for 2025, indicating a substantial financial loss.
The game had a disappointing launch, with a peak of just under 2,000 concurrent players on Steam and quickly dropping below 100 soon after. Although subsequent updates provided a slight increase in player numbers, the enthusiasm was short-lived, resulting in numbers dwindling back to double digits.
Remedy’s upcoming financial report scheduled for October 29 comes with this news, as they noted, “After the launch, the company rapidly developed the game based on player feedback and released multiple updates.”
As a consequence of FBC: Firebreak’s underwhelming sales, the studio must absorb a non-cash impairment of €14.9 million—effectively covering most of its development costs. While previous forecasts anticipated growth in revenue and operating profits, the outlook has shifted towards negative profits for the year.
“While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast,” said CEO Tero Virtala. This suggests that further major updates may be reconsidered, given the game’s performance and sustainability concerns.
