The Legend of Steel Empire is now accessible on PlayStation systems. This inclusion into the PS Store signifies the end of its exclusive presence on the Switch console.
Steel Empire Transition
Originally launched in 1992 under the name Koutetsu Teikoku in Japan, Steel Empire is a pacey arcade shooter that transitioned through various platforms, including Game Boy Advance and 3DS in the early 2000s. It underwent remastering for PC in 2018 and in collaboration with ININ Games for a Nintendo Switch edition known as The Legend of Steel Empire.
Transition to PlayStation Consoles
This new variant of the arcade classic features enhancements beyond Nintendo’s hybrid console, now available on PS4 and PS5 since October 9 for $24.99, matching its Nintendo eShop pricing. Early reviews show a strong performance, with a rating of 4.73 stars out of 5 based on a limited number of 15 reviews, indicating initial sales were in the lower hundreds.
The gameplay allows users to pilot either a nimble Striker plane or a heavily armored Zeppelin, enhancing combat dynamics with their unique firepower.
The storyline unfolds within a backdrop reminiscent of an old war film, illustrating the conflict between the metallic regime known as the Steel Empire and the technologically advanced Republic of Silverhead. This engaging narrative context forms the heart of the game, which also introduces a leveling system that gives an RPG twist to the traditional side-scrolling genre, marking the conclusion of its exclusivity to Nintendo consoles.
