Valve's Standalone VR Headset, Deckard, Expected by Year-End as Production Begins

Reports suggest that Valve's anticipated standalone VR headset, Deckard, could be released this holiday season following the start of mass production.

Recent reports from the XR Research Institute in China indicate that Valve’s standalone VR headset, known as Deckard, is on track to launch before this year’s end.

According to Upload VR, this new headset is expected to enter mass production soon, with anticipated annual production numbers ranging from 400,000 to 600,000 units. Deckard is intended to operate independently, eliminating the need for connection to a PC, in contrast to the existing Valve Index.

The anticipation surrounding Deckard has been building since mid-2022, with numerous rumors and patent filings sparking interest in its development. Previous reports have suggested ongoing work on unique controller designs and the preparation for manufacturing.

As Deckard nears its release, gaming enthusiasts are hopeful it will bring competitive pricing and functionality to the evolving VR market.
