Overwatch 2 Adjusts Mythic Skin Unlock System for Season 19
New changes are set to improve how players unlock Mythic skins in Overwatch 2, enhancing player satisfaction through a revamped tier system.
Overwatch 2 is implementing significant changes to the unlocking process of Mythic skins, starting with the upcoming Season 19 on October 14. This update aims to create a more engaging experience for players when purchasing each tier of Mythic skins.
New Unlocking Tier System
The redesigned system will offer the following tiers:
- Tier 1: Base Mythic skin, along with unique visual and sound effects.
- Tier 2: Unlocks customizable parts.
- Tier 3: Includes all color variants.
- Tier 4: Adds ambient visual effects.
Previously, the increment from one tier to another in Mythic skins felt lackluster for players, prompting this overhaul as highlighted by game producer Ren Soanes during a developer update. Emphasis is now placed on providing a more meaningful progression experience as players engage with the Battle Pass.
This season also marks a notable first for Overwatch 2, as two Mythic skins will be released. In addition, Kiriko will introduce a Mythic weapon skin called Spirit Keeper, maintaining a similar unlocking pattern to prior cosmetics. Expect this revised system to set a precedent for future skin releases, enhancing the overall purchasing experience.
