Battlefield 6 Developer Highlights Key Changes in Destruction Technology

Battlefield 6 is set to launch soon, marking a return to form for the franchise as developers discuss the improvements in destruction technology.

Battlefield 6 is launching this Friday, representing a major comeback for a series that had begun to blur its identity in the shadow of competitors like Call of Duty. Despite claims by die-hard fans that Battlefield 2042 has been improved post-launch, Battlefield 6 is expected to create a landmark for the franchise.

The latest edition of PC Gamer, set for release tomorrow, will showcase exclusive insights from developers at Criterion and DICE. Jake Tucker from PC Gamer expressed excitement at what he described as a “streamlined first-person shooter that captures the magic of earlier games in the series.”

Notably, the developers have drawn inspiration from past titles such as Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 4. Lead Producer Nika Bender stated, “When we decided we wanted to do something in the near future, we looked at other Battlefields from the same era.” This pre-launch atmosphere is complemented by promises of significant improvements, particularly in in-game destruction tech.

Christian Buhl, the Technical Director, elaborated on the advancements, noting that the game can leverage better hardware, saying, “The only magic trick is that we’re not on the PS4 or Xbox One anymore.” This factor has raised the minimum requirements in terms of memory and CPU speed, leading to enhanced overall performance.

Battlefield 6 promises intense environmental interactions, making full use of the upgraded Frostbite engine designed for destruction. Pre-launch testing has already shown strong performance, and Buhl confirmed, “The larger maps will be included at launch, as well.”
