Blizzard Promotes Avowed's Cross-Buy Feature as a Major Advancement

Blizzard announces that Avowed will support cross-buy between PC and Xbox, stirring debate about its significance.

Blizzard has made an announcement regarding Avowed ahead of its release on February 18, 2025. Players will have the ability to switch between their PC and Xbox for the game.

In a recent Blizzard blog post, it was stated, “Avowed breaks down barriers with cross-buy,” emphasizing that players can link their Xbox and Battle.net accounts to access the game on either platform after purchasing it.

This feature is seen as an evolution in the gaming space, though some players are skeptical about its impact. One user mentioned, “Give my Steam copy an option to be played on Xbox, then we can talk about broken barriers.” Others point out that this move by Microsoft is less of a game-changer than it may appear, as it primarily benefits their own platforms.

Critics argue that while cross-buy is a helpful addition, platforms such as PlayStation and Steam do not currently support similar features. Therefore, the release of this capability mainly benefits users within Microsoft’s ecosystem, leaving a gap for other users.

In light of these discussions, Blizzard’s emphasis on this feature could reshape how players perceive cross-play and access within the gaming community.
