First Look at Starseeker: Co-op Chaos in Space

A sneak peek at gameplay from the upcoming title by the Astroneer developers, featuring missions on vibrant exoplanets, though the timed challenges raise concerns.

Today marked the unveiling of the first gameplay footage from Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, the next title by the developers of Astroneer, System Era Softworks, published by Devolver Digital. An exciting co-op adventure awaits, though some aspects, such as the introduction of timed missions, could detract from the casual fun.

Starting from a space station filled with astronauts, teams of up to four can embark on colorful planetary missions involving objectives, alien encounters, and collecting “space loot.” Players will glide across vibrant terrains and dive into alien oceans while interacting with a variety of creatures.

However, each mission comes with a ticking clock, making some players nervous. The physical constraints mean that on every expedition, oxygen is limited, and there’s a strong push to return swiftly to the Starseeker before time runs out.

Beyond the missions, the mechanics of the game remain ambiguous. Players wonder if they can develop relationships with their friends, build structures, or if they will merely wait in a standard space station.

What’s clear is that while Starseeker promises engaging moments, the presence of a timer could complicate leisurely exploration—a worry some players might find hard to shake off. The release is scheduled for 2026, promising more updates in the near future.
