DICE Confirms 'Open Weapons' is the Preferred Path for Battlefield 6

In a recent update, DICE revealed that the 'Open Weapons' mode received far more engagement than closed options during the Battlefield 6 beta, influencing the game's future direction.

DICE’s New Direction for Battlefield 6

As the launch of Battlefield 6 approaches, DICE has shared insights from the recent open beta, revealing that the ‘Open Weapons’ mode proved to be overwhelmingly more popular than its ‘Closed Weapons’ counterpart.

In a recent blog post, the studio stated, “When comparing Open vs. Closed playlists, player engagement levels were quite similar. However, the Closed Weapons matches lasted slightly longer on average, which resulted in a modest increase in revives of about 2-3%.”

Many players expressed dissatisfaction with the mode labeled as ‘Open Weapons’, which allows any class to use any available weapon, reminiscent of gameplay found in Call of Duty. The statistics show that a significant number of players opted for the Open Weapons setting after trying both gameplay styles, leading DICE to conclude that this format offers a better gameplay experience.

DICE emphasized their commitment to balancing player preferences, stating that while the Closed Weapons playlists will still be available at launch, their data indicates broad approval for the Open Weapons format. “We believe that Open Weapons is the right path forward for Battlefield 6,” the blog noted.

Despite data indicating player trends, feedback from those who preferred a more class-restricted approach remains crucial, and DICE aims to incorporate these insights into future development.
