Paradox Ends Support for Millennia, Its Competitor to Civilization

Paradox Interactive announces the conclusion of support for its Civ competitor Millennia, following the release of a final update.

It’s a tough environment for games that aim to compete with Civilization. Despite mixed reactions to Civilization 7, competing titles still struggle to stay relevant. Millennia, developed by C Prompt Games and published by Paradox last year, has just received its final update before it fades into obscurity.

Phil Iwaniuk, in his review of Millennia, described it as “rough-edged but worthwhile,” noting its user interface and AI as points of contention but praising its innovative age progression system and city’s improvement mechanics. However, despite multiple updates, including this final patch—update eight—Millennia hasn’t managed to surpass its competitors.

With this latest patch, the development team at Paradox declared, “we are sadly coming to the end of an age. This will be the final patch for Millennia, thanks to C Prompt for their work and support of this game. While customer support will continue, we will not maintain an active presence on community platforms for Millennia. The game will still be accessible for play.”

The latest update includes various bug fixes, localization tweaks, and added mod support, yet it lacks transformative changes. This last update aims to resolve lingering issues before the game is quietly left behind.
