Nintendo has issued an official response to recent speculation that it was engaged in lobbying against generative AI alongside the Japanese government. The company confirms it has had no contact on this matter.
Nintendo stated in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Contrary to recent discussions on the internet, Nintendo has not had any contact with the Japanese government about generative AI. Whether generative AI is involved or not, we will continue to take necessary actions against infringement of our intellectual property rights.”

This statement came in response to a now-deleted assertion by Japanese House of Representatives member Satoshi Asano, who claimed that Nintendo was engaging in lobbying activities against generative AI. Following Nintendo’s denial, Asano released an apology for not verifying the facts adequately.
This incident arises amid broader discussions about generative AI in the gaming industry, particularly as over half of Japanese gaming companies reportedly incorporate AI technologies in their development processes.
