A recent marketing announcement from EA states that the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 will be capable of reaching 120 FPS in Performance Mode on consoles. Although achieving such frame rates in first-person shooters isn’t entirely new—previous titles like Black Ops Cold War have accomplished similar feats—Battlefield 6 promises an immersive current-gen experience with vast battles, extensive destruction, and impressive visuals.
Performance and Fidelity modes have been available since the days of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, allowing players to choose between 30 FPS at 4K resolution or 60 FPS at 1080p. This trend has become standard among AAA titles in the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S era, increasingly offering players options for prioritizing frame rates or graphical fidelity. With advancements like the PlayStation 5 Pro, players can now enjoy features like Variable Refresh Rate and support for 120Hz displays.
EA and DICE have indicated a console-first approach for Battlefield 6, mainly to tackle cheating issues prevalent in multiplayer on PC. Thus, the newly revealed Performance Mode reportedly can hit 120 FPS, although it’s currently unclear whether this applies to all platforms or is limited to the PS5 Pro. However, given prior findings by Digital Foundry that showed the base PS5 achieving up to 110 FPS during open beta tests, it seems likely that other consoles will also support this high frame rate.
On average, Battlefield 6 runs at approximately 80-90 FPS on consoles. It’s important to note that players will need a 120Hz display to take full advantage of the higher frame rates.
With just days until the game’s release on October 10, 2025, excitement is building as expectations soar following a record-breaking open beta in August, making it one of the most anticipated games of the year.
