Ampinel's Device Prevents Graphics Cards from Melting

The Ampinel device from aqua computer is designed to monitor and manage graphic card power loads to prevent overheating and melting, enhancing overall safety for users.

Graphics cards ideally should not melt. Unfortunately, some have reported issues, which is why the new device from Ampinel, created by aqua computer, steps in to help keep graphics card power demands secure across various connectors.

The Ampinel device is a compact addition that connects directly to a graphics card’s power connector and supports GPUs using the modern 16-pin connection. It precisely monitors current and voltage without overload, distributing loads evenly to prevent overheating and melting of pins.

In initial tests of the revised 12VHPWR connector, overall power loads revealed an uneven distribution. This led to overheating of single pins, risking damage. Since its launch, the Ampinel aims to eliminate this potential hazard by balancing current flow across all six channels and might even reduce load via software or cut power completely in critical situations.

To monitor this process, the device includes an OLED display showing live readings of overall wattage, current, and temperature, and it features safety mechanisms to minimize power wastage.

With comprehensive testing reported by Igor from Igor’s Lab, the device is termed both a monitor and an active power management tool. Scheduled to be released in mid-November, the expected price is around €80 ($94). The Ampinel could prove to be a vital tool for gamers concerned about the heat effects of powerful graphics cards.
