Teenager Admits to Threatening Epic Games Employees
A South Dakota teenager pleads guilty to sending death threats to Epic Games, with potential prison time looming.
A teenager from South Dakota has been charged after he admitted to sending threatening messages to staff at Epic Games, the developers behind Fortnite.
Griffin, aged 19, altered his previous not guilty plea to guilty for charges including threatening interstate commerce—a serious offense given Epic’s headquarters in North Carolina. He faces a maximum of five years in prison and a possible fine of up to $250,000. Even if he receives a lesser sentence, he might still undergo supervised release for three years.
In his own words, Griffin stated, “I sent messages to Epic Games, where I threatened to kill employees of the company. I intended for the messages to be viewed as a threat at the time that I sent the messages.”
This case highlights the increasing measures game developers are taking against online harassment and threats, as seen in past instances where studios like Bungie have pursued legal action against offenders.
