Sony Rolls Out New Firmware Updates for PS4 and PS5 in October 2025

Sony has released firmware updates for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, focusing on security improvements without significant changes.

Sony has kicked off October with the launch of new system updates for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. These updates are now available for users worldwide.

Unfortunately, akin to many past updates for these consoles, the recent releases primarily focus on “security fixes.” The PlayStation 5 has received version 25.06-12.02.00, while the PlayStation 4 is now at version 13.02.

PS4 and PS5 Both Get New Updates

On October 1, Sony introduced these firmware updates, but there isn’t much notable change. The official patch notes confirm that they are intended mainly for security improvements.

The PlayStation 4 is over a decade old, yet Sony continues to deliver firmware updates to keep users safe while gaming online, especially with major titles like the next Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 still being playable on this console.

The latest PS4 update, released in September, brought some enhancements in messaging and interface usability. For users contemplating an upgrade to PS5, it is noteworthy that an updated version of the console has begun rolling out, featuring visual improvements with a new matte black finish. However, a downside is that this new model offers only 825 GB of storage compared to the previous 1 TB.

Patch Notes for Updates

  • PlayStation 4 Update 13.02: Security fixes implemented.
  • PlayStation 5 Update 25.06-12.02.00: Security fixes applied.

Thanks to ongoing efforts from Xbox, several first-party titles now cross over to PlayStation, making the PS5 an essential console for gamers. Notably, Microsoft Flight Simulator is set to release on PS5 on December 8, 2025.
