Roblox Takes Action Against Unrated Games for Child Safety
The gaming platform Roblox has initiated a crackdown on gray-area games, reflecting its commitment to enhancing child safety measures.
Roblox has disabled all unrated experiences on its platform. This move is part of Roblox’s efforts to enhance child safety within its ecosystem.
In early September 2025, Roblox began standardizing its age ratings through a partnership with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC). This initiative aims to provide parents with clearer information regarding suitable age recommendations for each experience on the platform. Ahead of this, Roblox Corporation announced that it would disable all unrated experiences to align better with IARC’s objectives.
Roblox Implements Policy Against Unrated Games
The enforcement of this new policy commenced on September 30. It effectively prevents users from accessing experiences that lack a maturity label. Previously, Roblox allowed users aged 13 and above to access these unrated games, but this is no longer the case.
Unrated Games Can Be Restored
Despite the strict policy against unrated games, none have been removed. Roblox creators are encouraged to assign appropriate age ratings to enable relisting of their content. Creators can do this by visiting the Creator Hub and completing a ‘Maturity and Compliance’ questionnaire for their unrated experiences.
Preservation of Legacy Projects
The recent policy change predominantly affects older projects whose creators are no longer active. However, Roblox has pledged to preserve ‘cherished classics’ within this category. Specifically, the company will take it upon itself to rate any experience that has garnered at least 1,000 lifetime visits if the original creator is inactive. This initiative began in August 2025 and is intended to continue without a specified completion timeframe.
The discontinuation of unrated games highlights Roblox’s continuing commitment to improving child safety across its platform. Additional measures include stricter controls on mature content and revised access restrictions for users under the age of 18.
