Andrew Dice, a prominent figure in the video game localization sector, has passed away. He was recognized for his pivotal role at Carpe Fulgur, which was instrumental in bringing lesser-known Japanese indie games to Western audiences, most notably Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale.

This announcement was made by his friend and partner, Robin Light-Williams, on September 25th. He shared: “I am very sorry to announce that my friend and business partner, Andrew Dice, has passed away. Pursuant to that, Carpe Fulgur will be ceasing operations.”

Dice’s translation efforts helped change the landscape for indie games in the West, as highlighted in various publications, offering localized versions of titles that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.

On a personal note, Light-Williams expressed gratitude towards the community and reflected on the impact of their work. The team aimed to provide quality translations for games that deserved recognition, a mission they successfully pursued for years.

As part of this transition, rights to the translations will be handed back to the original developers, allowing them to continue sharing these works on platforms like Steam.
