Significant Visual Redesign in New PS5 Slim Model
Sony has launched a new PS5 Slim model in Europe with notable design changes and storage adjustments.
A recent examination has highlighted the alterations made by Sony in the new PS5 Slim Digital Edition, which has begun its silent roll-out in Europe. This version is marked by a controversial reduction in storage, lacking a price drop. Notably, there are numerous other internal and external modifications, including a visual update that is likely to attract some potential PS5 buyers.

Sony has a tradition of implementing subtle updates to its PlayStation consoles, often aimed at reducing production costs while maintaining similar performance metrics. However, the PS5 defies this trend, with prices experiencing a steep increase since its debut nearly five years ago due to challenging global economic conditions, making it costlier in 2025 than at launch.
New PS5 Slim Features a Matte Black Center
Recently, the introduction of a revised PS5 Slim Digital Edition has stirred debate, particularly due to the replacement of its previous 1TB SSD with a smaller 825GB model. YouTuber Austin Evans reviewed the prototype (named CFI-2216) and noted a significant shift in the PS5’s aesthetics—a matte finish has replaced the former glossy black plastic that many users found prone to dust and scratches.

The new version weighs about 4.23 ounces less, achieved through various internal refinements like thinner metal shielding and an optimized heatsink. However, performance metrics, thermal efficiency, and energy consumption remain stable, leaving users unlikely to notice changes in gameplay.
Despite the lighter build and aesthetic updates, the decision to trim storage without lowering the €500 retail price could negatively affect its perceived value. Previous models faced criticism for having limited usable storage, barely accommodating a handful of modern AAA titles.
At present, it is uncertain if this new PS5 Slim Digital Edition will be launched in the US, but Sony may reconsider based on customer feedback regarding the storage specifications.
