The Simpsons Movie 2 is Officially in the Works

Disney and 20th Century confirm that a sequel to The Simpsons Movie is happening, set for release on July 23, 2027.

On September 29, Disney and 20th Century confirmed that The Simpsons Movie 2 is in development and is tentatively scheduled for theatrical release on July 23, 2027. This release date aligns with the 20th anniversary of the first film and fits between two entries from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Originally released in July 2007, The Simpsons Movie featured Homer Simpson’s unintended consequences that led to Springfield being encased under a glass dome due to pollution. The sequel’s announcement follows Matt Groening’s earlier openness to a continuation of the film after the original’s success.

It’s noteworthy that the sequel will proceed without some familiar voices; long-time cast member Pamela Hayden retired, and her character Milhouse is now voiced by Kelly Macleoud. The Simpsons is approaching its 37th season, continuing to engage audiences with its humor and storytelling.
