Skyesports has revised its plans for its 2025 tournament circuit, scaling down from three projected tier-one events to a single one. This change includes a reduction in the prize pool for the upcoming event from $500,000 to $350,000. Valve has added this event to their “exception list,” permitting Skyesports to modify the prize pool and its format.
Moreover, the previously canceled Skyesports Souvenir will be restructured as an “open-for-all India-only ranked event.” In addition, they are planning to host another tier-two event later in the year, which remains unnamed.
The sole tier-one event will be the Skyesports Masters, scheduled for November 10-16, with 18 teams invited through VRS, including two wildcard entries. The top four teams from VRS will qualify directly for the main event while the remaining 16 will compete in an online closed qualifier.
Teams will compete in a Swiss-style format at the closed qualifier, with the top four advancing to the main event. Then the main event will feature teams divided into two groups, where a league-style group stage will determine which teams advance to a double-elimination playoff.
Skyesports cited the need for long-term sustainability as the driving force behind these alterations. “These changes, while reduced from our initial announcement, highlight our strategic re-alignment towards enduring sustainability while continuing to host significant global events.”
Historically, Skyesports has faced challenges with event organization; for instance, the Skyesports Masters 2024 had to shift from a LAN setup to an online format due to difficulties in securing the required approvals amid the Indian General Election.
Additionally, the Skyesports Championship in late 2024 dealt with technical issues, leading to BetBoom withdrawing from the competition due to unsatisfactory conditions.
