As Microsoft inches closer to terminating its support for Windows 10, many users are understandably frustrated by the push to transition to Windows 11. However, for some dedicated fans, nostalgia reigns supreme, as demonstrated by a recent feat shared by YouTuber ChrisPro.
ChrisPro managed to install the game Silksong on Windows 7, an operating system that many thought was long gone. Although Steam stopped offering official support for Windows 7 in January 2024, ChrisPro found a way around it.
To kickstart the process, they navigated through the Steam files to modify certain DLL files, effectively tricking the platform into booting on the older operating system. Despite encountering an ominous message indicating that support for Windows 7 had ceased, ChrisPro pressed on. They downloaded the game’s full directory from a modern system, then copied it over, battling various errors along the way, including the ironic message warning them of impending doom should they continue on Windows 7.
After overcoming these hurdles, Silksong not only ran but performed admirably on a setup powered by integrated graphics, which is impressive considering its simplicity compared to modern gaming setups.
This achievement sparks a conversation about the unyielding spirit of PC gamers who seek ways to run beloved software on outdated systems, showcasing the incredible resourcefulness within the gaming community.
