Unusual Cooling Method Claims to Chill RTX 4090 to 20°C Using Air Conditioning

A unique cooling method using a household air conditioning unit claims to cool an RTX 4090 graphics card down to a mere 20 degrees Celsius under load.

I’ve seen some wild and wacky PC cooling solutions in my time, but this one might beat them all: an RTX 4090 cooled with a household air conditioner.

Chinese techtuber Electrician Sodium Carbonate has shown off the extreme cooling system in a video on Bilibili.

The channel claims it is still waiting on a water block for a planned RTX 5090 build, but in the meantime, the air conditioner has been hooked up to an RTX 4090, dropping temperatures down to a claimed 20 degrees Celsius under load (via Tom’s Hardware).

This cooling system includes a powerful 12,000 BTU air conditioner that draws 1.2 kW of power. Given its size and power, that’s probably not too surprising. It’s even mounted on wheels for easier mobility.

The unit also touts a faceplate decorated with the logos of popular PC hardware brands, notably Nvidia, AMD, and Intel, making quite a statement.

Additionally, the test system utilizes an Intel Core i9-13900K processor, reputed to run a bit hot. Air manages to flow from the exterior intake of the air conditioning unit into the PC’s rear, aiding cooling efforts with minimal visible mess.

This method may seem excessive, and while it’s impractical for everyday use, it certainly demonstrates an innovative, if outrageous, approach to PC cooling. While setups like this may not earn a place on any best CPU cooler lists, they do highlight the lengths enthusiasts will go to achieve optimal thermal performance.
