Epic has temporarily removed the Peaceful Hips emote from Fortnite, a dance that was part of a collaboration with James Gunn’s DC series Peacemaker. This decision follows a significant plot twist in the series that recontextualizes the dance in a troubling light.
Warning: spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Peacemaker!
In the recent episode, it is revealed that Peacemaker, portrayed by John Cena, is in a dystopian universe where America was defeated by Hitler in World War II. This backdrop makes the dance in question appear to have deeper implications than previously thought.
In a statement, Epic mentioned: “As we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collaboration, we will be issuing refunds for the emote in the coming days if it does not return.”
Initially, the Peaceful Hips emote was viewed as a playful or humorous dance move, but the recent developments in the storyline have cast a shadow on its meaning.
