Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford presented a new Vault Hunter named C4SH during the recent Tokyo Game Show, announcing that he would be released as DLC in early 2026. Unlike previous installments, Borderlands 4 is set to expand its character lineup early on, indicating a sustained future for the game.
The quirky new character is a robot cowboy, previously a casino dealer, who embraces a new life as a Vault Hunter, equipped with abilities that revolve around random chance—similar to Claptrap from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Players can expect C4SH to engage in card-throwing skills, likely drawing inspiration from Pitchford’s own magic tricks demonstrated during the announcement.
In addition to this, the upcoming expansion will contain new story content. C4SH’s inclusion is part of the Vault Hunter Pack, bundled in the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 4.
“C4SH has an ability that involves throwing playing cards, perhaps reminiscent of Gambit from X-Men,” Pitchford remarked. He noted that his skills were used to inspire the animations for C4SH’s card-throwing moves.
This DLC aims to address gameplay stagnation by introducing fresh elements and enhancing player engagement, with the studio displaying confidence in the longevity of the franchise post-launch.
